Mercyful Fate est un groupe de heavy metal originaire du Danemark et fondé en 1980 par King Diamond (Kim Bendix Petersen). Mercyful Fate est reconnu comme étant l'un des pères fondateurs du black metal.
En 1988, King quitte le groupe et entame une carrière solo, il réintégrera le « Fate » en 1993, date à partir de laquelle il mènera de front ses deux carrières : Solo (sous le nom de King Diamond) et au sein de Mercyful Fate.
